4. In the Save in box, select a location where you want to save the backup file (could be My Documents Folder), type a file name in the File name box, and then click Save.
Then move the file to a floppy disk or on CD if you can - that is extra protection.
1) Insert floppy disk in computer.2) Click Start, Run. Type in A:/ Hit OK. A floppy disk window will open (blank if floppy disk has no files)
Go to the folder where you saved the backup. Click once on the backup file - drag it to the floppy disk window.
That was manual instructions for removal of FakeAlert Trojan. As always you can scan with both your anti virus and anti adware/spyware software as well -- for automatic removal (if the software find anything at all). Not all trojans can be automatically removed!

Windows XP Registry Repair - Easy Registry Recovery
Need to do a Windows XP Registry Repair?
Here is the easy method that you can use to do it.
But first, what are some of the results of registry problems?
Completely non-functioning PC
Speed issues
Blue screens, resulting in inability to use PC
Frozen screens, frozen applications
and more...
Registry problems are the worst thing that can happen to Windows users, because they can often render all or part of your PC unusable.
Unfortunately, due to the number of applications and games that are installed and un-installed on our PCs, the registry can become a mess. This mess make it progressively harder for your PC to run efficiently...
and then one day... CRASH.
How to recover from registry problems?
You need to perform a Windows XP Registry Repair.
You can use one of the registry re-build methods listed on the Microsoft web site, but these can be risky! There are so many steps involved that it is very easy to turn a temporarily non-functioning PC into a permanently non-functioning PC.
The easiest way is to use one of the many Windows XP Registry Repair scans available.
Using these registry scans it's simple to get your PC working at the same great speeds (and sometimes better) than it was when you bought it.
Generally, the registry scans are provided free, giving you the ability to diagnose if there is actually a problem with the registry or not. Once you have ascertained there is a problem it is as simple as a mouse click to fix it.

Online Data Backup is a Great Option for Disaster Recovery
As a small business owner, have you considered what you will do if your computers or servers crash? What if your building is the victim of fire, flood, earthquake, or vandalism?
Oh, I hope you are not caught unprotected from a power surge or a brown-out in the middle of the night. And none of your employee you recently fired has decided to seek revenge by hacking into your system and deleting all of your sensitive financial and customer information. Your business, large or small, should have a well designed disaster recovery plan for your electronic data.
One vital thing that every single company today, whether it is a small home-based business or a multi-million dollar corporation, must have is a disaster recovery plan.
A disaster recovery plan is how you protect your company in advance of potential catastrophe. The plan does not have to be terribly formal in most cases, but it needs to be something you take care of immediately if you do not yet have one.
The first thing you need to know in formulating your defenses from disaster is that all electronic information, such as documents, spreadsheets, graphics, e-mail messages, etc., need to be copied so that it will still be available to you in the case of an emergency.
While a simple backup on a CD can be practical if you have very little material for a home-based business, the reality is that most businesses, even small businesses, have much more than will fit onto a CD.
And, staff just simply does not back things up on a regular basis if you leave the task for them to do on their own. Most of us think "nothing will happen to my new computer" until something actually does, and we lose everything on it.
If your small business has multiple computers, then you should be using a file server to hold all of your documents. This file server needs to be backed up on a nightly basis at the minimum. While it can be backed up onto tape based media, the tape drive and the media can be very expensive items to purchase.
Another less expensive option is to upload your data to an online data backup service.
An online data backup service is a company which has a large center full of servers. They allow you to connect to them, via the Internet, and upload all of your server’s data onto one of their servers.
Your server connects to their server through a secure connection, just as you would if you view your banking information on line. All of the transmission is encrypted so that it cannot be read or stolen by anyone else online.
If you do not use a file server, you can also upload from individual computers.
Once the online data backup service has received your data, you then have a copy many miles away in case of disaster at your location. Your offsite backup can easily be retrieved from them if you ever need it.
As an additional layer of protection, all of the data centers also back up their servers nightly. This ensures that even if their facility has some sort of disaster, you would still be able to get a copy of your data if you were to ever need it.
An online data backup service can be a great way for a small business to archive their data for recovery in the case of a disaster. The services of today are very affordable and secure. Making them a part of your disaster recovery plan is a smart idea.
When disaster strikes, be assured of the security of your company's electronic data with online data backup. Avoid downtime and revenue loss with online backup services from Global Data Vault at http://www.globaldatavault.com.

New USB Thumb Drive Data Storage Devices, Faster and Bigger but more Secure?
Today, there are so many companies making USB thumb drives, many of these devices are faster, bigger and more compact, but are they a safe means to hold your companies important data?
Secure USB Thumb Drives
Flash memory manufacturer Corsair says it has solved the problem of non secured flash drives by forcing you to enter a unique PIN code to enter their USB thumb drive and access your data. It's a great idea but will it really help?
This "Flash Padlock" USB thumb drive protects file records and data with a unique PIN that you enter on the built in touchpad on the actual USB flash drive shell. You then enter the device into your USB plug on your laptop or desktop and the device operates as extra external memory. Corsair said the device is much more resistant to brute force attacks or keystroke loggers.
You see keystroke loggers record any keystroke you make on your keyboard. In other words, when you type in your password on your keyboard to unlock a secured USB thumb drive, and if a hacker has gotten a program of theirs on your device it would record your password as you type them (all of them). Every so often these keyloger programs send these simple text files via a build in e-mail program to their own e-mail inbox. This is bad!
The new Corsair device would ask that you type in your password before you plug your storage device into your computer USB flash drive port (USB port). So in essence the keylogger hacker programs would never have a chance to record your computers keystrokes and there would be no way for them to access your data.
"Featuring auto-lock hardware security, Flash Padlock is the best way to secure your data while on the go. It prevents any unauthorized access or "Brute Force" attacks to the data on the Flash Padlock. Users can program in a PIN, much like they do for an ATM machine, to lock/unlock their data. An easy to use keypad in conjunction with lock/unlock indicator lights makes the Flash Padlock easy to use. The Flash Padlock is fully plug-and-play, and requires no software or drivers to work properly."
The Flash Padlock will auto lock after 15 seconds if removed from the computer. This ensures your data stays locked-up, if you forget to lock the device this thing does it by itself (I love things that make sense). The Flash Padlock USB storage device will work with Linux, Mac OS X and Windows based computers.
At the moment the Flash Padlock is available in 1GB and 2GB capacities starting from $29.99. For more information on this specific device visit this URL: http://www.corsair.com/products/padlock.aspx
As we are on the topic of Corsair let's continue. Are you a flash survivor, corsair thinks it is. "Corsair Introduces Flash Survivor -- Extremely Rugged USB 2.0 Flash Drive"
Rugged USB Thumb Drives
As the owner of eProvided, a digital image recovery company which also specializes in advanced USB data recovery, we know a good idea when we see one. What this all comes down to is feedback from users that have purchased this device. If we do not see these devices come in to our labs then there is a good chance either no-one is buying them or they are not having issues of damage. The most common type of USB memory stick damage is when the USB port is broken or breaks off from the USB drive itself.
A common cause of USB thumb drive damage is from users plugging these devices into their laptop or ground based desktops and bumping the device while it is plugged in. This causes the part of the USB thumb drive that plugs into the USB slot on their computer to break off. Most of these breaks are very serious as the internal circuits and parts inside the USB thumb drive are permanently damaged. "USB Device Not Recognized" error messages may appear after such an incident.
You may also have a windows error message such as "USB Unknown Device". This is a sign that your device has suffered serious damage to the circuitry. At this point you will need a data recovery company to assist you. Consumers need to buy devices that are more rugged and are made by larger names in the storage industry. Flash Survivor™ is an exceptionally tough, water resistant, drop-tested flash USB memory stick storage device.
A design made ideally for transporting valuable data such as personal files, jpeg images and personal applications without having to be bothered by the chance for damage or loss of data due to various natural elements.
So use your noggin and buy strong devices and keep the contact information of those who may be able to help you in case of data loss on USB thumb drives. Linux - Find Files Containing Text
Because of our being forgetful in nature, we oftentimes forget the files that we have created. We can only be fortunate if we can still remember the path, folder, or directory where we have stored those missing files. If that's the case, it would never be a big deal then. However, trully this a big problem and even painful if we can't even remember where we have placed the missing files in our computer. "Simple," I'm hearing you... "find it." Yeah, we can find it. But wait, do you know the filename?
Forgetting files and forgetting the filenames are most common in us. I will never believe somebody out there have a photographic memory and has never experienced missing some of the files he had created before. For sure, we all have gone through that frightening experience especially if the file that is missing is so precious to us.
In Windows, this problem can easily be addressed just by using the find or search tool in the Start menu. Can you remember some texts or phrases in the filename? Use "find files with names" and unleash the power of the wildcard character (*). For example, if you can only remember the word "statistic" in the filename, then search for "*statistic*" and that will search for files with the word "statistic" in the filename. "I can't even remember a word in the filename," again I can hear you saying that. Well, I don't think you can't even remeber even a single word in the file content itself. If you can't remember even a word or phrase in the filename then go for the file content itself. In Windows, still you can search for files containing some texts that you specify in your "find files containing text" input box. That will absolutely solve your problem of forgetting words in the filename itself.
However, if you are in Linux, the whole thing would be more different and complex than it is in Windows especially if you are just a normal user dependent on the GUI interface. Linux is more on executing commands from a shell.
So if you are a normal user and that you are facing the "missing files" problem in Linux, don't worry, I will show you the most common methods in solving this issue:
Find files that contain a text string
grep -lir "text to find" *
The -l switch outputs only the names of files in which the text occurs (instead of each line containing the text), the -i switch ignores the case, and the -r descends into subdirectories.
Find files containing search terms on Ubuntu
To find files containing keywords, linux has a powerful command called grep, which you can use to find the lines inside any file or a list of files.
grep -i -n ‘text to search' *
List files containing text
Used to recursively search a directory for files containing a string, output the names of the files and the line number. This will search all regular files in for.
grep --with-filename --line-number `find -type f`

Windows XP Blue Screen Of Death
Symptoms of the Blue Screen of Death are when your screen turns completely blue, and a white error message asks if you have installed any new hardware or software over the last few days. Sometimes, we can just turn off the computer, restart, then the error will go away. This happened to my Laptop. I had bumped it against the table and the blue screen appeared. Restarting the laptop in this case solved the problem.
If the blue screen persists then, its necessary to fix it. The blue screen of death does not go away on its own. It appears randomly based on the CPU calling functions from the RAM or registry. When the CPU calls certain functions from the RAM, or Random Access Memory, and the data rests in a faulty section of the RAM, this will cause the blue screen to appear. Another common incident is when we have Anti virus installed. I remember having Norton Anti virus on my computer and whenever the computer booted up and started to load the Norton Anti Virus program, the blue screen would appear. This is not because of the software but because the CPU is accessing data from the faulty locations within the RAM when loading the software.
Correcting Registry errors may help solve the Blue screen problem. This can be done by using registry cleaners. Registry cleaners will scan your computer for errors then if there are, you'll need to purchase the registry to fix them. Cleaning your registry is a good thing because it will allow you to boot your computer faster. Old software in the background will greatly eat into your computing power and slow the speed of your PC down.
If this does not solve the blue screen of death issue, then test your RAM. You'll need 2 sticks of ram for this. Remove 1 stick of ram and wait to see if the blue screen surfaces, do the same for the other.
Through process of elimination, you'll find the cause of the blue screen of death problem. That's how I solved my BSOD problem.

Let's Play What If - What To Do Right Now If You Don't Have A Data Center Disaster Recovery Plan
In business, it's always a good idea to play the "what if" game? You know, asking those "what if" scenario questions about your operations, customers and employees. For example: What if a key employee were to quit or die? What if we lost our biggest customer? What if we lost our supplier? And so on.
If your company relies on computer data (and what company doesn't these days?), then a critical what if question you need to ask is, "What if we had a data loss disaster"?
What shape would you be in if your computer data systems failed? More to the point, what is your specific disaster recovery plan? Because the reality is that it is not a question of whether you will suffer a data loss, it is a question of WHEN it will happen.
Does your business even have a data center disaster recovery plan in place? If the answer to that question is "No" or if you are less than satisfied with the answer, then you need to read on.
Having no disaster recovery plan is a disaster in and of itself. But what if you have a system in place? Can you comfortably say that you are confident that your backup system will perform?
Well, if you're having second thoughts about either starting a data center disaster recovery plan, or if you are not confident that the plan you do have will work, then it's time to invest in a new plan that you can trust.
Don't know how to get started? Allow me to assist you
What if you're running your own business? Mind you, it's not some giant international conglomerate, but for a small company that's only a few years old, it's doing fairly well. More importantly, it's your business!
Perhaps your business is doing so well that you managed to score a big client recently and now most of your employees are hard at work on a big new project this client gave you? What if the deadline of this project is in a week's time, and though your company is on pace to meet the deadline, the schedule is so tight that even the smallest delay could make you late?
What if your client is very particular about time, or the project is time sensitive, and a delay would cause the client to leave your company for one of your competitors?
A Digital Bump In The Road
What if a blood curdling scream suddenly filled your office? You run to find out what's going on, only to find one of your key employees staring in wide-eyed terror at his computer screen? He turns to you, and in a stunned voice manages to tell you that somehow he has lost a month's worth of work in the company database by accident?
What if you realized at that moment that there is no way to restore that data and that starting over would make it impossible for you to meet your time-sensitive deadline? At that split second, you realize that you've procrastinated on getting that data backup system in place that you've know all along you needed.
The realization that had you just made data backup a priority BEFORE the data loss occurred, that right now instead of panicking, you'd simply be implementing your simple data center disaster recovery plan and with your reliable computer backup system safely in place, you be minutes away from a simple restore of those now lost files? Imagine how good it would feel to be delayed a matter of minutes instead of being dead in the water and unable to finish the project in time?
Not Vivid Enough For You?
What if it wasn't a hapless employee that deleted a few files? What if one of the thousands of insidious computer viruses found its way into your database and corrupted (or worse - deleted) every single file? What if that virus spread to every computer on your network, effectively crippling everything that keeps your business running? Would you like to be banging your head against the wall out of frustration, knowing that if you had just taken the time to make online computer backups that your business could still be saved?
Still Not Convinced?
Well now, what if you weren't lucky enough to suffer a simple computer virus? What if an earthquake, a fire, a hurricane (can you say Katrina), a tornado, a theft, or any number of random unstoppable forces of nature completely ravaged your office building, leaving you not only without a physical space, but totally without computers, without any files or hard data, and without any record that could prove you ever had a business to begin with? Sound far-fetched? Just ask any business owner in New Orleans or South California recently.
Would you break down and start to cry, thinking about how even the most minimal of effort toward implementing a data center disaster recovery plan could have made a huge difference? What if all it took to save your business was a computer backup system and a few online computer backups?
Tired of this game yet?
So am I. And I suppose by now, you're beginning get the point. So what's going to be your excuse now?
Don't you think it is time to take ACTION before it truly is too late?
When getting started on a data center disaster recovery plan, there's no need to think twice. It's an essential part of your business and something that you should have RIGHT NOW. Otherwise, you may find yourself asking "what if?" for real.
If your business relies on computer data, you need a data center disaster recovery plan. Set up your data center disaster recovery plan today -- BEFORE it's too late!

Sometimes, you might need to recover data from your hard drive, that your computer is telling you is currently corrupt. Other times, it might be data from CDs and DVDs, or other storage media formats, that you are unable to access.
Damage to your information can occur through physical failure, such as your CD-ROM getting scratched, or your hard disk drive simply malfunctioning due to a mechanical failure. In general, all physical damage across some data loss. For physical damage, data recovery generally won't be able to be something you can fix your self. It requires that you fix your hard drive in an environment that is sterile, so no more dust can damage your disk further. Also, it usually requires certain technical expertise and specialized hardware to make these repair.
Sometimes, the only hope is to boot up the bad drive long enough to quickly grab the information, and save it to a backup.
Another way to achieve data recovery, is through the disk imaging file on your computer. This is usually the trick for when there's been corrupted file information, rendering your files inaccessible. You can extract the raw data captured on your disk image, to recover the data that is missing or incomplete. There are a lot of free tools out there that can recover all the damage, in most cases.
Whenever you use data recovery software, there can never be a guarantee that no data loss will occur. Sometimes certain files share the same data, and not losing data for one of the files is essentially impossible to get around. However, the result is it that recovery software often restores a lot of data that users have otherwise written off as hopeless.
In conclusion, I have given you a definition of data recovery, and also have examined some points that consider for those in need of recovery. I have given you some options to look into for data recovery software, depending upon your needs.

How To Prevent Your Computer From Being Slow
One of the most common complaints that we hear from PC users is the slowness of their PCs. You must have had the same problem with your computer some time or the other. And generally the answer we get to this problem is that perhaps you have stored way too many files and documents on your personal computer, which makes it slow down gradually. This is indeed a valid explanation for a slow computer; however it is not the only reason for a slow computer. Other than this something very vital which you need to look into is the registry of the computer.
The registry or the registry files in the computer keeps stock of everything-information and settings of all the software, operating system software, hardware and every single file and functions running on the computer system. The registry files have to be maintained in proper order; otherwise once any of the files go awry, the computer faces problems in functioning smoothly and might even hang up. The computer requires starting up any particular software by looking into the registry files. In case the registry file is absent or not in its proper shape, the computer is liable to stop running the given software. This in turn slows down the computer generally. The slow computer is unable to do anything with the software. In such a situation there is the possibility of the computer hanging or getting locked up. This is where you need to take care that the registry files are in working order, or fixed properly when the need be.
The basic thing you need to have in order to fix your registry files is registry repair software. You can get the very best standardized registry repair software and use it on your personal computer. The registry repair software is imperative for such a situation; you cannot repair the damaged registry files otherwise. Using the registry repair software helps because it points out the number of files that are corrupted and need to be repaired. Then you can give command to the registry repair software to fix each and every registry file and restore them to their original configuration. The entire process is surprisingly simple, and can be done in only a matter of minutes. And because it is a relatively simple process you can check your registry files from time to time. For instance if you use the registry repair software once a week it is enough to ensure that the registry files are in proper shape.
A slow computer is a very common malaise in computer systems. As mentioned earlier, storing an excessive amount of files and folders may also cause your computer to operate slowly. In such cases we find that the speed of the computer decreases; a file or folder might take more time in opening than it earlier used to or your CD writer might take an unusually long time in writing material to a blank CD. But you should not forget the importance of registry files and how you can keep them in perfect order with the help of the registry files repair software.

If You've Ever Wondered How An iPod Really Works
The question of how does an iPod work will very likely come to mind for anyone new to the music, video and even game download world. The fact is these portable devices are pretty complicated, but for users' purposes they are as simple as can be to operate. All it takes is a basic understanding of the Internet to made one of these devices work to its full advantage.
To answer the question of how does an mp3 player (like iPod) work, one must first understand basic download technology. An iPod works using the same principles as a computer with a portable storage device. Music, video and game files are downloaded onto the device's memory and can be recalled for use whenever an owner would like. The player itself does all the work to make the files operate correctly.
Detailed answers to the question of how does an iPod work will vary depending on the model in question. Let's look at some of the top questions surrounding basic use:
How does an iPod work for music downloads? In its most basic form it is designed to read MP3 files, which are music related. The device serves as a giant storage system for downloaded music files, while also offering sorting capabilities and playback.
How does it work for video downloads? In much the same manner as the music downloads, an iPod, depending on the model, can also handle video files. This depends on the model and its storage capacity.
How does an iPod work for video games? Some newer models are designed to offer serious gaming action in addition to music and video playback. This works in much the same manner as the other two, but the iPod must be equipped to handle the files.
How does the device work for getting downloads? Getting downloads will depend a lot on the device in question, but Apple has set up an online store that enables direct purchase and download of a variety of files that can be played back on it.
How does it work in this circumstance is pretty easy to answer. All that's necessary is a computer with an Internet connection, broadband preferably, and an iPod. Buy the files from the iTunes store, plug the iPod into the computer using the USB port and then download the selected directly to the machine. The store basically walks users through the process.
Answering the question of how does an iPod work really depends on the model in question, but the truth is as far as users are concerned the answer is fairly simply. How does an iPod work? Quickly, efficiently and simplistically are all words that come to mind.

Computer Software Training - Virtually
When you attend training, what do you get? Well, what you paid for, of course. But what if you find that you have paid for the wrong track? Or you found that the course is too easy for you? How easy is it for you to switch to another course then? Do you have to wait for a few days? Weeks? Or indefinitely? Do you have to tolerate all that basic stuff till near the end of the course duration and get what you came for? Can you ask the instructor to skip topics when the rest of the class seems to be junior at it? Is the trainer willing to give you more than what is beyond the paid course contents? Just how much more? Do you have to worry about sitting for tests at the end of the lesson that seem to test your language more than your skills? Wait! Does that classroom air-condition temperature seem perpetually freezing? Or like in the oven?
Why do I raise these issues? The simple answer is - they are the constant frustrations of classroom training attendees I hear time and time again. Chances are, you faced some or all of these issues yourself. Software trainers with some years of experience report the feedback on course structure, targeted content and administrative ease, contain these disappointing remarks. It is true that flexibility, targeted contents and practicality play significant roles on the impact of the entire course - not just the experience and proficiency of the trainer. And there is the test or examination factor. For many of these attendees who came for knowledge, the test or exam factor actually shortchanged them of course hours, more hands-on and a conducive learning atmosphere. Adding on, some examination systems seem to take an eternity to log on to, owing to server delays, network traffic or bad programming. In short, participants do not get the satisfaction and objective they hoped for. It is a one-size-fits-all solution with limited or no repeat broadcast. Refresher sessions a few months down the road are virtually non-existent. Or it comes with a reluctant 'yes' on the provider's part (after much convincing on the trainees' part), along with a hefty 'token' fee.
What really counts, is that attendees learn something out of the course. That their understanding of the application increases. That they can make use of the application in the field - when they have to produce something, and have the confidence to assert that the application can do this and that; or that some things are out of the application scope. Right? So that is why I advocate flexible, practical, targeted online training that give the participants control over their learning or needs.
Here are what I find appealing about virtual training:
1. Participants can sample tutorials before deciding.
2. Participants can repeat lessons as often as they wish.
3. Participants can pause the instructor at their own comfort.
4. Participants can take the course where and when they are most comfortable.
5. Participants can switch to a course that is more suitable for them anytime.
6. Participants can follow their own pace, not the pace of the slowest or fastest learner in class.
7. Participants can take ONLY the topics that they require, not those they already know.
8. Participants can access all other possible topics when they need them. These should include popular software titles like Microsoft Office, Macromedia Flash, Dreamweaver, Adobe Photoshop and technical courses like MCSE, MCSA, CCNA, CompTIA A+ (for PC technologies) and Network+.
9. If the participants themselves are trainers, it is a good, fast, quick and reliable way to revise topics before that BIG delivery day.
10. If participants have an URGENT crash course need, it is within their reach.
And, importantly too, it should not burn a hole in their pockets where affordability is concerned.
Bob is a computer software trainer for office productivity application, network, PC and server operating systems and databases for several years. Having given classroom training, Bob also advocates online virtual training as a more flexible and targeted alternative.
